Oscar Casares

The Reading by Oscar Casares was held at the Art Museum on Saturday, September 27, 2003.

Book Magazine identified Oscar Casares as "one of ten authors to watch in 2003." His first publication, Brownsville, a collection of short stories based on his life in Brownsville, Texas, was released in March of this year. Oscar Casares received an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His stores have been published in periodicals such as The Iowa Review, The Northwest Review and The Colorado Review. In 2002, he received the Dobie Paisano Fellowship from the Texas Institute of Letters and was presented with a James Michener Award from the Copernicus Society of America.

In its March 2003 issues, Texas Monthly declared Oscar Casares to be "Texas' most intriguing young storyteller."
