Paulette Jiles is a poet and memoirist whose books include Celestial Navigation, which won the Governor General’s Award for Poetry in 1984, North Spirit and Cousins. Her first novel, Enemy Women, is set in the Missouri Ozarks during the American Civil War and follows the plight of a woman wrongly imprisoned for collaborating with the enemy. The novel grew out of Jiles’ research into the history of her Ozark ancestors, and has been earning rave reviews.
